WHAT IS RESTYLANE?
Restylane is a non-surgical treatment designed to improve the appearance of aging skin by smoothing out fine lines and offering a younger, more youthful appearance. This injectable dermal filler has been widely used by dermatologists for their patients around the world to fill in fine lines and smooth wrinkles and creases on target facial areas. Restylane consists of a substance called hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the human body. When injected into the face it restores the elasticity and fullness of the skin. The filler can be injected anywhere on the face exhibiting signs of aging, and it is a popular alternative to surgical procedures for women and men wishing to lessen the effects of aging on the skin.
ARE RESTYLANE TREATMENTS SAFE?
Because hyaluronic acid already exists naturally in the body, most patients react well to the injection with no major side effects. And since the injections are non-surgical, most patients experience no downtime. Unlike other types of hyaluronic acid injections, Restylane is not produced from animals, so it’s considered safe for patients who have experienced an allergic reaction from similar products in the past. WHAT ARE THE BEST TREATMENT AREAS FOR RESTYLANE?
There are a few different types of Restylane fillers that can be used to improve the appearance of skin almost anywhere on the face. Many patients use it to improve laugh lines around the mouth, to give lips a fuller look, or to enhance a recessive chin. Other patients receive injections to help with sagging under the eyes or to fill creases and folds in the skin. Also, some patients use it to enhance the shape or volume of cheekbones, as well as any other areas of the face that show signs of aging.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY PROCEDURE?
The treatment can be done in as little as a few minutes, so you can receive the injections and get on with your day. Your physician will inject the gel-like substance into your facial skin using a very thin needle. As the skin absorbs the hyaluronic acid, wrinkles and lines should begin to smooth, leading to noticeably younger-looking skin within just a few minutes. The procedure is relatively pain-free, with most patients experiencing only mild discomfort at the injection site and possible mild swelling and redness. Results may last up to a year or more, however, some patients may need to receive multiple treatments for the best results.
